What does it mean to be reinventable?

What does it mean to be reinventable?

Let me tell you a story.

Last week, I was in St. Louis giving a keynote, and afterwards I headed to the airport to catch my flight home.

Unfortunately, it turned into a series of delay, delay, delay, crew timeout, delay. I was there for a loooong while (and ended up getting home at 2am. Uff.)

I decided to make the most of my time under fluorescent airport lights and get some steps in. While I was walking up and down the hallways, a woman came up to me.

"Nataly, I just wanted to thank you. I was in the audience of your keynote earlier today and what you shared really resonated with me. I really needed to hear it," she told me.

We got to chatting and I wanted to learn more about her.

She and her husband had been told they couldn't have children, which was devastating news as you can imagine. They didn't handle it well: They ended up spending money they didn't have, buying things they didn't need to try to cope, and got into serious debt.

And then they found out she was pregnant.

So they had to figure out how to put their family back on healthy financial footing.

They came together as a team, got help, and worked really hard. It wasn't easy, but they did it! They cleared their debt, they're doing well, and they have a beautiful family.

And now, she has started her own business helping women achieve financial wellness.

I was so moved by her story. Because she was this beautiful living example of everything I mean when I talk about being reinventable. She took the hardest, most painful chapter of her life and used it as her catalyst. Not just to heal, but to grow into someone who now helps others do the same thing.

That is what it means to be reinventable:

It means embracing change and using it as your catalyst to grow, expand into new possibilities, and create the impact only you can.

That's what the woman I spoke to did: She didn't just get herself and her family out of debt. She turned the hardest change she'd ever been through into her greatest purpose. And her passion for doing that work was palpable, even after a 4 hour frustrating plane delay!

And here's the thing: YOU are reinventable.

REINVENT•ABILITY is a capacity we all have as human beings, but we have to tap into it, we have to learn how to practice it.

And in order to do this, we have to shift our mindset.

We have to choose to see change not as a threat, not as something that is happening to us, but as an invitation to grow, to evolve, to do more of what is calling to us, and to create the impact we want to have.

For the times we're in, this is not an optional skill.

It's the most essential skill to help you grow and thrive.
