DARE TO PLAY

A creative exploration of your Zone of Aliveness

Friday, July 24, at 2pm ET / 11am PT

90 minutes, virtual via Zoom

This is for you if you can feel that you’ve outgrown where you are but you’re not certain about what comes next.

There's no clear idea waiting in the wings, nothing specific calling your name yet, and you’re feeling internal pressure to “figure it out”.

It’s tempting to think that the answer is somewhere out there. Maybe you’ve even tried to look for it.

But it’s closer than you think.

You find your way to what's next by remembering what feels alive in you, by reconnecting to your Zone of Aliveness.

We forget what feels good.

We get so practical, so responsible, so good at being the person who has it handled, that we lose touch with the things that make us feel alive, inspired, energized.

And this experience is where you begin to remember what they are.

Step out of your head and into your aliveness

Remember how good it felt to make things as a kid, just for the joy of it? No plan, no point, no one grading it. When was the last time you felt that way?

That feeling is what we're after. It's the feeling of aliveness, and it's what opens you back up to new ideas and new ways of expressing who you are.

You don't need to know how to draw or paint. You don't need any experience at all. This is not an art class. If you can hold a pen or a brush, you're in.

You need some paper, a little color, and a willingness to play. I'll be right there making alongside you.

Together, we'll make things using a few simple, playful prompts, with music on and zero pressure to get anything right.

Every time I do this with a group, the same wonderful thing happens:

Everyone feels more open, free, creative, inspired.

That’s because making things with our hands frees something in us. It opens up space for us to step out of the “should”.

In that space, the threads of what might be asking to be expressed in us begin to show.

Those threads are how you begin to create what's next, long before you can see the whole picture.

You'll leave with one aliveness thread to follow. Something small you can start doing more of this week.

For the part of you that wants to know why this works

Creative play is not a detour from life or from creating what’s next for you.

It’s actually a beautiful shortcut:

  • When you make something with your hands, your stress level goes down and the part of the brain that runs your inner critic quiets down.

  • With less self-monitoring, you stop second-guessing, and fresh ideas come to the surface.

  • A quieter critic and a calmer nervous system are the ground that lets you notice what actually feels good, which is exactly the information you cannot reach by thinking harder.
